Hi Terry. I was at the gym this morning (I’m 45, but have been working out with weights, off and on, since the age of 16 and still have good muscle definition. At least till today. I was doing 35 pound preacher curls and hyperextended my right arm at the third curl. I felt this snapping sensation three times, as if three elastic bands had been snapped in my bicep, with a pain of 10/10 at each snap. I was in agony. I placed an ice pack on the area right away and, when I removed the ice 20 minutes later, I noticed something horrible the lowest third of my bicep was gone! About three full inches of my bicep is not there anymore. I went to a clinic and was told by the doctor that the bicep tendon or tendons has ruptured and that it may remain like this for the rest of my days. He referred me to an orthopedic surgeon, but things in Canada sucking big time when it comes to medecine, it may take week or months to get an appointment with a specialist. Do you think this type of damage is repairable, is it worth it (I am in quite a bit of pain when my arm is extended in any position BUT with my fist facing forward) and what are the possible downsides to this surgery? Thanks so much for your kind advice.
