Sartorius Muscle pain

I have a sharp stabbing pain when I stand or put weight on my right leg.
The pain is in the front of the hip area right where the top of the thigh and groin meet.
It comes and goes, but has been recently getting worse.
I suspect it may be my sartorius muscle or a nerve in that area. Any suggestions on how to strengthen or stretch that muscle?

    It would help to know how it first started and how long the pain has been present. First, make sure it is the sartorius muscle and not the rectus femoris as they originate close together. Sit down and lift the affected leg up like you are going to cross your leg to read a newspaper like a man does. This isolates the sartorius more. For the rectus femoris, ly down on your back and raise the affected leg off of table. Which one hurts more? That will clue you in on which muscle. You could have a strain, tendonitis or avulsion fracture but a good history would be needed to make that call….

    likely a labral tear in your hip. MRI of hip with contrast may show.

    It occured about 8 days ago and it has not gotten any better. I have taken ibuprofen and have slowed down my activities and at night I can’t sleep because my right hip is constantly in pain. What can I do to get it healed up? Thanks.

    very helpful info. I had my bones tested and an ulta sound with no bad results. When I crossed my leg the pain went away. The lay down and lift hurt more. So, it IS the sartorius. I did a major groin pull about 5 years ago. Could that be the cause? I am a jogger and semi fit so this pisses me off. The doctors have not helped. Any suggestions?

    i have a painful movement ( rotation ) of the r leg.this started when I walked faster then usuall.unfortunatly I did not had a rest,so the pain resist then went away almost.now the pain reappered so what is the best thing to do?

    well let me tell u what and how this happened u usuallysit in my chair with my legs crossed in a like lotus possition my hubby came by and pushed on my left leg I felt like someone had stabbed me in the innertop of the leg when the pain comes I have trouble walking what kind of exercise can I do to strengthen this problem. I know I pulled something and believe I can work it out

    hi I m DR Manish dermatologist I have got similar symptoms, I started playing soccer after a gap of 10 yrs,nothing happend in first two wks, after that I had this sartorial pain,my ortho adv me a two week rest and RICE trtmnt,after resuming play again(yesterday) I had strained it again,kindly tell me the strengthing exercises,how to prevent it in future.
