Scaphoid fracture
I fractured my scaphoid at the waist about 12 weeks ago. It is stable and non-displaced and I was told it had a 90% chance of healing without surgery.
Well I must have read every article every written on this damn bone, but reading about it only gets me more nervous that it may never heal. Luckily it is on my left hand and I am right handed. I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks. I was in a long arm cast for 9 weeks and a short one for another 3 thus far. At 9 weeks there was still no signs of healing. My question is this, I feel fine 90%-95% of the time during the week, but I still get achs or quick pain now and then in the region of the fracture…is this normal in healing, or does it mean it prob has not begun healing.
I fear sugery b/c it seems that surgery is not always effective, but I want out of this cast as soon as possible. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, or have you had similar symptoms.
If so how long did it take to heal, and how do you feel today. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.Vincent

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.: VincentSame injury, but I had the surgery ( told I would be in a cast then a hard splint 4 weeks tops) Well this was 3 weeks ago and I am still in a cast and will be until April 5th. Total cast time 8 weeks with a splint to follow for who knows how long. Get the surgery. You could go a few more weeks in a cast and still need it only prolonging recovery.
