scarring after blister

(2 discussions)

I recently went to the E.R. to have an infected blister, on my right little toe, cared for.
The doctor lanced it and told me to apply Neosporin and keep it bandaged and to see a follow-up physician.
The toe remained in pain.
The follow-up doctor said it’s scar tissue and that I need to see a podiatrist.
I have no insurance at this time (new job) and I was wondering if those OTC creams would work.
I am in pain at all times, even when I sleep, and no pain medication helps (I take Aleve).

What OTC creams? If you have healed and the skin is normal looking and still have pain, then it should be looked at. If you are still healing, then keeping it covered and protected is the right thing to do. Just because the skin looks white and mushy does not mean it is infected, it is moisture in the tissue. If you are wearing shoes that seem to aggrevate this, change your shoes, at least for now. Try sandals if your job allows. Hope this helps.

Neosporin Scar Solution (OTC) is suppose to minimize scarring. The blister is healed over but has left dry, hard scar tissue and that’s what’s causing the pain. At least that’s what the follow-up physician told me. All I know is that there is pain around the area where the blister was and my toe is swollen. The E.R. doctor scraped off the top layer when he lanced the blister, so I don’t know if that’s what caused the scarring. The pain is lessened when the toe is exposed, so I will ask my boss about wearing a sandal on that foot. Thank you!!
