Sesmoid fracture

(2 discussions)

I fractured my sesmoid (middle one) 30 years ago. In the past 5 years it has been inflamed several times. I have survided by wearing cushioned flats. What are the dangers of having this surgery?

There are usually 2 sesamoids under the 1st metatarsal head. The surgery to remove each one is a different approach. You should discuss your concerns with your doctor and if necessary, ask for a copy of your X-ray and get another opinion until you have the information you need.

Not being able to wear nice shoes….HaHa! No seriously… I had the surgery when I was 15..the doctors exhausted ALL other measures.. I mean I had it all!!!it was bad..anyway I had the doctor for the NYC ballet operate on me..she did a wonderful job and I am fine today, excpet for a little bump of the outside of my foot (thats the scar) and a bit of sensitivity if I’m in high heels that put pressure on the big toe..but its not unbearable, if I must wear high heels one day…I’ll wear flats the next. If your in severe pain and they’ve tried everything else.. I would do it.mine was broken for 2 years.. I can’t imagine 30!!! Email me if you need more info!
