severe flat feet

After viewing x-rays of my very painful and flat left foot, the orthopedic Physician’s asst.
told me that the bones on the top of my foot are collapsing down due to the flatness.
My foot is misshapen on the instep with a bulge and painful across the top.
I asked him if he thought wearing a brace could help or correct in some way.
He said no, no correction can be done – just stop the damage.
I really do not want surgery, he recommended orthotics.
I would like to get a second opinion and wondered if anyone has ever had a problem like this helped by a brace, cast or boot.
I am searching for answers and relief.
Thanks, Dana Wilson
