Severe rear heel pain

I have had severe pain in the back of my heel for a year.
I have seen 2 podiatrists, gone to physical therapy had orthotics made by both doctors. Nothing has helped in fact the last orthodic ended up giving me knee pain and problems in my knee.
I am 66, used to be an avid walker but both podiatrists have said they were trying to avoid surgery.
They diagnosed it as Haglund deformity, Spurs and Bursitus. It is ruining my way of life and I just don’t know what to do.Any suggestions? If Ihad surgery what is the usual recovery and non activity time for an otherwise healthy person? Thank You
