141 Wildwood DrJackson, AL 36545251-246-9202251-769-1729Our 16 yr old son severed his peroneal nerve 05-15-2015. It was a laceration caused by a metal bracket protruding from an ATV. He sustained an injury below the base of the knee, 10 inches horizontally, 8 inches vertically extending from the first laceration and 6 inches deep. The formation favors a “Y.” He underwent surgery at the University of South Alabama Medical Center, the nearest Level 1 Trauma Center in our area. The surgery consisted of cleaning the wound, reattaching the severed ends of the peroneal nerve and closing the laceration. We are trying to obtain any information available as to what our options are concerning this type injury. We have gathered information indicating nerve regeneration is possible at the rate of 1 inch per week. We also understand there are two types surgeries that may be successful should the nerve not regenerate, the first being sensory nerve grafting (not favorable outcomes for the peroneal nerve, unsure why) and the second, bypassing the injured area by connecting the tibial nerve to the lower section of the peroneal nerve (procedure pioneered by Dr. Rahul Nath, Director of the Texas Nerve and Paralysis Institute in Houston, Texas). Please advise us, in your opinion, as to what our next course of action should be. Also I would like to know the percentages of nerve regeneration success and how the most knowledgeable resource could be contacted. Our son is very active in varsity sports. He plays baseball and football. He is a left-handed pitcher, center fielder and first basemen as well as starting tight end and defensive end. He is academically as well as athletically eligible for scholarships. We want the best care available to him so that he might be able to fulfill his dreams.Anxiously awaiting,BJ GriffinThe mother of Sam Griffin

August 17, Matt here, dealing with a broken leg caused by being hit by a car going 40 mph. As a result my peraneal nerve has been severed or severly damaged. lost the ability to lift my foot but I have dorsoflextion, numbness and tingling in random areas of the foot. The accident happended July 21, surgery was just a few days after. Any helpful information regarding this type of injury would be appreciated. Or if I could help answer any questions related to this I would be happy to help if I can. 206 595 4524. Ill never take for granted the ability to walk, ever.

I’m a victim of a severed nerve. Seems we’re living in the stone age. They can put heart nerves back together. But can’t cure surgically drop foot. I take morhine sulfate sr,and a pain break thru. I stay on the internet, but no success. If surgically a doctor could help with the pain, this would be a miracle. I AM VERY SORRY FOR ANYONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. IF I HEAR OF ANY SOURCE I WILL NOTIFY YOU. send an e-mail.
