Severed Quadricep Tendon

(2 discussions)

I had surgery for quadricep tendon repair, after a fall severed it all the way through. I understand for best results the surgery should be done within 48-72 hours of injury. Mine was 26 days later. My doctor told family, after surgery, he had a hard time getting retracted muscle pulled far enough to sew it onto my knee cap. It’s taken about 6 months now, after a full leg cast for 6 1/2 weeks, to bend my knee even 90 degrees. How much more mobility can I expect and can you recommend mobility (range of motion) excercises, please? I have no insurance, so going to physical therapy is absolutely out. Thanks! 🙂

Detached the quadricep tendon after right foot slipped and my total body weight (240lbs.) did a a super deep knee bend on my left leg. Had it reattached within 30 hours. Have been given minor exercises until next Dr. visit at the 5 week mark. Have not reached 90 degree flexibility yet. What do you suggest for PT after the next Dr. visit? What can I expect time wise for full mobility? Thanks,Paul Crawford

6 years ago, I had the right Quad severed during a procedure to install a revision, knee joint. This was the result of an original knee replacement and a staff infection 6 weeks post knee implant. My right leg ended up 65 degree lockup, and the leg would not straighten out without the quad seperaton. I was denied any therapy and wonder if there is any therapy available now. I have a 74 degree flexion, right leg.
