SEVERS DISEASE

My son aged 12 & has recently been diagnosed with severs disease.
I am unsure if it is safe to let him continue sports. I’ve read he must do stretching/warming exercises and ice pack the area before and after stenuous sports. He is soccer mad and doesn’t want to give up any sports.
Will the symptoms come and go or will it be everytime he goes out running/playing?How long will he have the condition?
Thank you

Who diagnosed your son? They really should be the one giving you this information. However, I will give a general overview. The inflammation of the growth plate of the heel (known as Sever’s disease) is usually self limiting. When the growth plate closes, the vulnerability is diminished. The growth plate in your son’s heel may be open for several more years.Usually, heel cups of very good shock absorbing material such as silicone are what we use. Some of these are available over the internet. You might check on some links. Sometimes an orthotic is useful. But really, you should be getting this from the doctor who diagnosed this. If not, see someone else.
