Severs disease in athlete

my son has severs disease he is 14 and has been dealing with this for a few years.
his doctor gave him lace up braces to wear when he plays soccer.
it has recently been bothering him worse than ever after a hip dislocation injury.
i have been having him sleep in these braces and have put gel heel pads in his cleats.
is there any other thing we can do to ease his pain?
he is also taking 25mg of viox everyday.

Calcaneal apophysitis or Sever’s disease is generally ovre after the growth plate in the heel finaly fuses with the main body of the calcaneus. Rest, ice, anti-inflammatory medication and shock absorbing heel cups such as these at the link below are useful. If this does not help then complete rest is indicated, although this is unpopular with the patient, sometimes it is the only thing that will help. http://www.ortho-net/silipos/wonderspur_blue_dot.htm
