What you describe is frequently a result of this type of injury. Sometimes, the patient has so much pain, that a surgery to fuse the talus, calcaneus and cuboid ( called a triple arthrodesis) is done to relieve pain. A brace might be a conservative thought. I have used a custom brace called a Richie-type brace in several patients who have severe arthritis and are not candidates for surgery. This of course means you have to wear the brace- it is not a cure and put up with a shoe you can wear it in. You also might want to get another opinion about your situation. Ask your doctor for copies of your records prior to going to another doctor.
