Shin splints?

I suffered all throughout soccer season last year with what I believed were shin splints. After mostly resting over the winter and getting orthotics fitted, the pain is back and worse than ever since I started training again. People have told me the pain associated with shin splints is felt as a muscle pain, however it is my shin bones themselves that are in agony. Could this be something other than shin splints? The front of the shin bones are very sore to touch and have small lumps in places. Would seeing a physio help? Thanks.

Hi I have on both legs on my shins bumps that appeared about 6 months ago. At first they started out small swelling on the right leg right in the middle of the shin bone and then on the left leg down on the right side of my shin above the ankle. Then I went to Alaska and checked them out and took x-rays. They saw nothing and said it was maybe a thing called athema nodosem ( I don’t know the correct spelling) Then the one bump on my right leg split into 2 and would swell and go down and swell and go down. They hurt when I pressed pressure on them. Then the little hard bump on my left leg got bigger about a month half ago. Now Just recently I discovered 2 more little oneson the side of the other 2 on my right leg and they are sore. I was playing a lot of basketball and ran a lot last few months before May right before the appeared. Now I am taking it easy just beccause I don’t know what they will do. Because when I do work out they swell up and are real tender. DO you have any suggestions?
