should i have rod removed?

I had a motor cycle accident one year ago this month .Should I have the titainium rod removed? I am 40 years old, I am also an Ironworker, I work on bridges and buildings. I work on heights as much as 200 feet in the air. I am what they call a connector I work no lesss than 20 ft in the air. I am affraid if I have a fall at all or have an accident,that rod will break or bend please advise remove or not? THAT IS MY QUESTION?

    Gary, Since you forgot to state where the rod is located, it is hard to answer your question. Generally, however, you are stronger with the rod in place. If it is not bothering you, why don’t you just leave it in? I don’t think it would hurt you in the event of a fall; in fact, it would probably make that particular site stronger than any other, so you would just fracture someplace above or below the rod. If you are this concerned with falling on the job, maybe you should try something less risky. I am not joking: studies have shown that employees that are worried about work-related accidents are more prone to have them. Your orthopedist would, however, be the best person to answer your question about the rod…hopefully he can put you at ease. I would be curious to know what he tells you, so please write back and let us know. Good luck.
