Should I stop going?

(3 discussions)

I have been going to a chiropractor for the last two months and have been recieving three adjustment every week. I have lower back pain and neck pain which I have acquired from playing too much sport. Here is what he does I ly face down on the table with my head angled upward and he pops the head part of the table down. He also has me ly on my side and twists my spine to align it more to the right. I lie face down and he presses on my sacrum to correct a subluxation and the table pops down. I have not noticed any improvement in my symptoms, rather I have a pain in a new area in my sacrum (tail bone I think)and I have gotten a little worse everywhere overall. He has made a drawing on the x-ray of my neck of how he intends the position of my neck to be after a year of adjustment. It seems lke my neck will be in a severely retracted state and I will look like a goofball. I think my head position looks normal put he insists it is too forward. I have paid 2500 euro already and signed a contact so if I decide to leave I may be forfeiting all my money. That is a lot to me as I am unemployed. I think I am going to tell him this week or perhaps give the treatment another couple of weeks. I would be grateful for any advice on what I should do.

I’m from Ireland but I will look into how I stand legally. He tells me that my my spine needs to be physically realigned in order to releave stress on overworked muscles and to allow even distribution of weight. My spine is slightly off to the left but it does not look too bad. My neck is apparantly too far forward and need to be retracted and curved backwards at an angle that apparantly will better support my head. This is why I get cricks in my neck he says. When I stand in front of the mirror and retract my neck it seem my jaw sinks back into my neck and my head seems too far back. He has said that this is the position that he wants my neck to be in and insists that I am abnormal now. I am in a fix about what to do because I would really like to get back playing sport again and perhaps he may still help me as i’ve been going for two months only now. Maybe it will take longer for me. I was a bit suspect when he whipped out the contract. He allowed me some time to think about signing it. His reason for the contract was that he expected 100% commitment from his patients to the program as he also gives 100% to his patients. Can you tell me something about repositioning the neck into a more retracted position? Is there a chance I could look silly? Where in the neck will the new backwards curve be formed? I think may end up looking the same as when I pull my head and neck back like the backthrust of a chicken impression, if you know what I mean.

Leave! This guy is a total scammer. Check local or state law with regard to him keeping your money. In the USA state law varies and I’m almost certain any money not used has to be returned to the patient. Some states look at this prepayment as selling insurance and its illegal, some require the money to be put in a escrow account. Any doctor who makes his patient sign a contract is scamming you.

I have been seeing a chiropractor but I did not have to sign a contract. However, I was given a deal on the overall price if I paid up front. However, it does state in the paperwork that all remaining money will be refunded if I stop treatment early. they seem very legitimate and very good in my opinion. My insurance has me pay about $30 a visit but the place was able to get the cost down if I paid up front.
