shoulder pain when pushing

(2 discussions)

i had an MRI done a couple months ago and it reads They did see a mild bursitis, along with a small supraspinatus tendon injury (focal intrasubstance tear of 25% thickness”) with some inflammation along the bone. This is not a major injury. This is not a major injury. The anti-inflammatory medication medication and PT should help heal this quite well-doubt any need for injection or surgical intervention. I would pass this onto the Physical Therapist you see. Not sure when this injury happened but I remember waking up one morning with my shoulder under my chin and my face head first in the pillow. later on that day or the next, I was doing bench presses and felt pain within my shoulder. This has been going on five months and I have stopped bench pressing, I only stopped doing back exercises since last month and have started taking anti inflammatories last week with some rotator cuff exercises it seems like its helping… I still really don’t know what this injury is and would like to know what I can do to rehabilitate, if you can help me out I would be very thankful

Yes, you should not bring the bar down to your chest as this pushes the humerus into the anterior capsule of the shoulder joint, where 80% of dislocations occur. You should bring the bar down so that the humerus is parallel to the ground, or there is a 90deg angle at the elbow. He should not train in that movement for a while and allow his connective tissue to mend.
