Shoulder tendonitis/bursitis

(2 discussions)

I have had tendonitis now for almost 5 mos and can’t get it to go away. Dr. has given me naproxen, which did not help. Swiched to Diclofenac, which worked better but still has not alleviated the problem. Ultasound therapy was also useless. X-rays show no bone spurs or rotator cuff tears. Stopped working out at the gym since 7/3/2012 and still no improvement. Any suggestions?

I have had reoccurring shoulder tendinitous since highschool. I am 24 now. I had gotten so bad at one time that I could not pick up my arm. I used a combination of therapy. I continued to work out but only did movements that did not aggrevate it. 30-45min before each work out I took about 800mg of Motrin. The theory was that tendons don’t receive much blood flow so anti-iflamatories being carried in the blood won’t get to the pain very easy. However if you are warming the area with exercise the anti inflamotories can make it to the pain in larger quantities. When I was sitting around watching TV I would ice it for 20min then heat it for 20min. I would to this any time I had free. In addition I began a complete stretching program for my biceps triceps, chest, and shoulders(all the muscles in the area. This got rid of the tendonitis is about 1 month. YOu have to be consistent and stay away from sports and exercises that aggrevate it though. For example I could only do back and tri exercises with out aggrevating the shoulder.
