Shoulders

I am a drift boat fishing guide and I do alot of rowing and I mean alot. Over the last few years my shoulders have started to hurt towards the end of the season. (last three seasons out of five total) The scary part is it has been happening sooner every year and it gets hard to make it through the season.
People think rowing is the greatest exercise and it is in a lot of ways I have very strong shoulders. But I think I need to balance it out or something I don’t know.
What I do know is I will not be able to keep going for too many more years if I don’t to something to stop this.
Iam only twenty three and this is something I would like to do for the rest of my life.
Incidetally my elbows also hurt sometimes. If you could reccomend something I can try out to stop the pain at the end of the year I would really really appreciate it.
Thank you.

My first suggestion would be…can you get someone else to row the boat? And second, you are right…you ARE causing a muscle imbalance. You need a good exercise routine to build up the muscles that stabilize your shoulder so you don’t get a repetitive type injury or even a rotator cuff tear. Can you ask your doc for some PT to get some education?
    Cheers!
