siatic nerve

(2 discussions)

hi, I have been having a pain running down my left leg from my lower back, I have no idea what brings it on but sometimes the pain is so sharp it litterally puts me flat on the floor.Nothing seems to help, i’ve tried muscle relaxants and tylenol 3. I am employed as a letter carrier and i’ve learned that quite a few of my co-workers suffer from this, probably because of carrying the bag on my right side everyday, i’ve currently switched to a new dual mailbag to distribute the weight to both sides, hopefully this will help. Please if you have any suggestions on medication or therapy or any exercise to help prevent this please let me know I am 33 years old and don’t want this pain forever….. Thank you

Sounds like Sciatica. You need to have X-rays to rule out a disc herniation. You need to see either an Orthopedist or Chiropractor as soon as possible. Your injury might well be work-related; if so, it should be covered by Worker’s Compensation coverage. You would probably benefit greatly from treatment by a PT or Chiropractor, as well as Rx Medications for the short term. Let us know what happens.

I’m not sure if it is the siatic nerve or what. I have a dull pain in the lower back most of the time. If I play golf, sometime during the round my lower back with get very sharp pain like some one hit me with a ball bat and almost drive me to knees. From then on, I can not swing the golf club. Later the pain will go down one leg or the other and my back and leg will be sore for several days. The pain never completelly goes away even with rest.
