slow healing fractured 3rd toe left foot
5 weeks ago I fractured my 3rd toe left foot while sparring my husband in karate. He heard and felt the break (he’s a PT i’m an RN). I had it x-ray’d which showed a “minor” fx at the base of the toe. I’ve been in a “post-op” shoe and have remained “buddy taped for 5 weeks and am still unable to wear a normal shoe or get through the day without a “burning” sensation bordering on pain at in frequent intervals. Am a floor nurse with a lot of walking but expected to be back to working out again by now. Thoughts?

Depending on the location of the fracture and degree of separation of the fragments, it may take much longer for healing to occur. The 6 week myth is just that. Patients assume that they are well then, without taking into account the numerous variables that can and do affect healing- age, health, activity level, location of fracture, degree of immobilization, etcThe foot always presents a difficult situation where people expect it to heal while continuing to use it. Gravity is your enemy also. Now after all this encouragemnent, I recommend you hang in there. It should get better, just not as fast as you'd like. Hope this helps.
