Sore big toe joint

I hike/run 4 miles per day 5-6 days per week. About 3 weeks ago, I changed from a hiking book to a running shoe which gives me more stability since I have low arches and tend to overpronate.
Soon after that, I started to have pain in the joint of my big toe.
At first I thought I was lacing my shoes too tightly, so I loosened them, but I still have the pain.
I took the last 5 days off…
I hoped the pain would go away, but it didn’t.
When I got my new shoes, the salesmen mentioned something about one of my joints being “looser” than the other…
I’m having the pain in my right foot, but not my left. My boyfriend mentioned that gout can start in the metatarsal Is there some symptom that I can look for to determine if the problem is related to my low arches rather than gout?
I’m not ready to go to a doctor just yet…can you give any input on this problem?
Can you recommend some type of insole that might help?
Thank you for your input.
