sore scar from achilles tendon repair

(2 discussions)

Hi,
it has been a year since my surgery to repair a torn achilles tendon.all is well, there is some swelling but I just keep off my feet when it gets bad.the problem is the scar, it is still so sore that I can only wear back-less shoes, the slip on kind, and I must be careful not to let anything touch/knock or rub against it.
I need to know why the scar is still so sore and will it ever ge better? Also do you know of any orthopedic brace/device that I can wear to protect it and perhaps allow me to wear regular shoes again?
Thanks

From your description, you may have injured the branch of the deep peroneal nerve. Further testing may be indicated to see how much. If the nerve is still intact it may take several more months to recover. You can see a podiatrist or a neurologist for further info.
