Spine cracks with BREATH-Neck SHAKES

(13 discussions)

Hi, my name is jack and I have a problem.
Please EMAIL me if some1 has the same problem as me or has an answer. my email is [email protected] Well my problem is that sometimes when I take deep breaths my spine pops/cracks.
It happens more often when I lay on my side.
The popping will stop if I twist and crack my back but it will start back up again within about 20 mins.
I also have another problem with my neck.
It shakes uncontrolably when I get a tad nervous. Especially when I give speeches.
It might also shake when I get a haircut or when I have to hold my head up while laying down.
It shakes more rapidly when I get nervous though.
Please email me these problems are taking over myh life!

I have had the same problem for about a year. when I mention it to doctors they just ignore me basically. but I have problems getting deep breathes and have to frequently push my chest out to feel like my spine is “sitting right” and to get a good expansion of my chest. I also have dealt with anxiety and similar problems, I don’t know if there is anything wrong. David

I also have a popping that occurs sometimes when taking a deep breath in. Also, slight dull ache in middle of upper back associated with that.

Wow, I don’t have the popping but I do have that exact neck shaking..especially when I get nervous. But I don’t even have to be nervous… It happens when I get a haircut and so on and so forth…. It is sooo noticeable and embarrasing. I have no idea what to do. No one has been able to help.

I have the neck shaking thing going on too (most of my life). I have scoliosis, but it’s not bad. When I am nervous and make a speech or get my haircut, the same neck shake thing goes on, just like with David’s examples. When my neck starts to shake, I have to concentrate hard and relax those muscles. It used to be a lot worse than it is now since I have been taking Pilates classes. I do work my spine in Yoga also: it seems to help the situation.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. My neck has been doing the same thing. It first happened at a photo shoot when I was 17 and then came back with a vengence in my mid 20’s and that is where I am now. When I get nervous at all it just shakes or twitches! I could be getting a haircut, talking casually to a co-worker, or just ordering a sandwich at subway! It is sooooooo awful! All doctos have done is prescribe anti depressants and that has done nothing but make things worse! No one seems to know anything! Very frustrating.

I have the spine popping problem. It really concerns me. My father is a doctor and he also pretty much ignores me about it. I want to know what is causing it because it happens literally every 25 minutes or less… I don’t have the neck problem, but if anyone finds out anything about it, please let me know.

Great to see so many posts on this. I’ve had the same problem for years. I went to the doctor’s and chiropractor and only one doctor gave me a diagnosis. anybody heard of, “shumanns disease?” I’m not quite sure if I spelt it right or if he was even saying it right but he did say there was a disease that complicated the T-11 vertebrae. The vertebrae wasn’t the same size as the rest and the synovial fluid would build up around it and cause the popping sound when you breathe. Similiar to popping your fingers when you bend them or twist them. The doctor said I could wear a back brace. (he said I slouch)

Ditto the shaking. I have social anxiety disorder and the shaking is aweful in social situations or where I have to hold my head still OR when it’s cold and I shiver. I think this is a condition on its own and is exacerbated by Social Anxiety. I read something one time about “essential tremor” I’ve heard about people prescrbing beta blockers for this but I think this is more for the anxiety. I’ve never asked a doctor about hte shaking but I have a great Dr. now and will ask. I’ll post if I learn anything new.

Hey, I’m 16 years old and I have the same problem. I carry a heavy book bag so when I’m standing on the Subway, I take a deep breathe because I feel my back stiff. As a result, my back cracks like about 5 times. It’s really awkward =/

I have the same spine popping problem. It also happens most frequently on my side. I was thinking about going to the doctor but it doesn’t seem like any of you had any success with that. Too bad because it worries me too.

I have this problem also, when I take a deep breath I get this popping or “cracking” of the upper spine between my shoulder blades, also if I’m standing up for a long period I feel a kind of “ache” between the shoulder blades where this popping occurs, its been happening for about 2 years now and is very annoying, I also have transverse myselitis which affected my lower back, I think this problem may occur thru years of in-correct posture, I find if I force myself to stand/sit upright with an improved posture the popping doesnt happen but I feel very uncomfortable sitting correctly lol, also to the people speaking of this neck shaking when nervous, this sounds to me to be completely un-related seeing as it is attached to emotions, maybe it is a nervous twich of sum kind.
My advice on the neck popping would to see a good chiropractor
