sprained ankle
(3 discussions)
i sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago on the tennis court. it was categorized as a level 3 (i did hear several popping noises at time of injury). it is still swollen, however, with an air brace I am highly mobile without pain and have been running/playing tennis again..(although slightly uncomfortable)my question: can I resume activities now, if it is still swollen, and expect it to heal properly? am I returning to activities too soon?

Yep, I think you are returning to activities too soon. Swelling means tissue irritation...running and cutting will aggrevate that healing tissue. My recommendations is stay away from tennis for a few weeks. Remember, tissue heals generally within 6-8 weeks. Give yourself some time to heal!!

I work with injured troops and find that there are a lot of injured ankles. I have found that they return to normal duties by restricting the running and jumping initially and I have them perform single leg stance activities on secure surfaces and unstable surfaces. Try that.

About every 2-3 wks I move my ancle wrong, and it swells up; the pain is enormous. I went to the urgent care, and it was called a sprain since xrays showed nothing. However, this keeps happening. Anyone know what is going on? Am I dislocating this? Any cure? Thanks for your input.
