stiff back

i was dragged by a minivan the end of nov 2014. I required 7 staples in my head. I had ct scans done from head to pelvis nothing was found. I had pain for months which has let up now. However, when I sneeze, my back feels like it has no give at all, like it should be more flexible than it is. I have to hold on to something when I sneeze or it feels like my back could snap in two. what is causing this?

The problem you may have is scar tissue formation. It sounds like you would be a very good candidate for chiropractic care. Here is my explanation The best way to explain the “stiff back” is with a different injury, for example, a sprained ankle. Many of us can relate to this. With a sprained ankle, the injury is usually acute. Ligaments and muscles are damaged. Swelling then ensues. The doctors tell you to use ice, and elevate, to decrease the swelling. Well, lets say you didn’t. The swelling would remain, but then slowly decrease. What happens during that swelling? Scar tissue is laid down within the joint, trying to stabilize the ankle, to prevent further damage. Unfortunately, this scar tissue is “weaker” and layed down in an unorganized fashion. The purpose of scar tissue is to “immobilize,” which limits motion. This scar tissue is then stiffer than the normal tissue. So this would lead to a “stiff back.” So the swelling in your spine, surrounding the muscles, and facet joints, went down, but the damaged tissue was replaced with scar tissue. How do you fix this? Rehabilitation and movement! A chiropractor can provide manual adjustments to the spine, providing movement and breaking up the scar tissue. Soft tissue treatment like myofascial release technique will also break up scar tissue, then continued treatment will encourage the body to heal with tissue that is laying in the correct directions, allowing flexibility!Sorry this was so long!
