Strained Bicep

(3 discussions)

I’m 42 years old and have been lifting weights for years (nothing too serious, just a regular routine). About this time last year, I started to feel a pain in my right bicep when doing curls or household chores that require use of my biceps.
The pain is especially noticeable when I do hammer curls. The pain and/or injury has limited my ability to tackle heavier weights or perform certain tasks. For example, this weekend, I had a hard time dumping a wheel barrow full of rocks.
Who should I see about this? An orthopedist? Are there any exercises I can do to rehab my arm?

Fred you may as well figure it out on your own, unless someone answers you who did the same thing and then went to a doctor

I’m not a therapist. I thought I’d tell you what you already know. Some people need that. Unless you have a PPO, go see your regular old HMO doctor so he can refer you to the correct specialist. If you have a PPO, then, yes, it seems like ortho would be the right choice. For the fun-with-rocks issue… maybe mental health. If it hurts, it’s probably not good for you. Hammer curls don’t sound too pleasant anyway. Neither does dumping a cart of rocks on a weekend. No offense, but doing hammer curls at 42 is a little different than hammer curls at 22. Seek a physical trainer.May I suggest this exercise while you wait for your doctors appointment? Feet up, beer or preferred beverage in hand, curl beer/drink can to lips, drink, relax. Repeat as desired or until pain goes away. I guess I should stress again that I’m not a doctor or therapist. (smile)

I work for a chiropractor and showed him my rm its where the elbow join is on the antior side about three inces up my bicep I have radiating pain onto the forarm it hurts to andthing with it even pick it up the muscle is not torn I know this much I ffel perhaps it’s a strain sensoredits hard as rock there is some minor residual bruising but nothing to noticable do you know what this is and what to do for it. I’ve been iceing it three X’s daily with ultrasound at 2.0 @ 35% for ten minute intervals twice daily and will continue for one week and then re-evaluate progress. but would deffinaltly like a second opinion on it.
