stump neuroma surgery question

(2 discussions)

My neuromas came back 5 years later – stump neuromas.
The dr. wants to make the cut LONGER from the top of the foot.
Can that may recovery more difficult or is it more risky to the muscles around that area?

A common misconception is that the longer the incision, the longer the healing time. Incisions heal from side to side not end to end. I don’t relally think your doctor is making the incision so much longer than previously, it is probably because the stump has retracted and a bit more exploration is needed.

I had a very successful removal of a Morton’s neuromain left foot 12 years ago. Last August (2018) I fell and experienced a very bad left mid foot sprain. To make a long story short, within about 3 weeks subsequent to the initial injury, I started experiencing pain in the original surgery site (3rd interdigital space.) It is now 8 months later, & the pain still is concentrated in that space. Is this a stump neuroma & what can be done to remedy?
