Subluxation???

(2 discussions)

My ankle sprain isn’t realy getting better, but I’m going to an orthopedist in 2 days. But my question is would this be considered as subluxation… On my good ankle I can crack it anytime I want. I just point my ankle down quickly and it cracks. I do it by will anytime I want, but sometimes it cracks by itself. This doesn’t hurt at all, but what now concerns me is that I was able to do this with both ankles, and have been for several years. Now that I sprained one of my ankles, would this have made the the sprain worse if this is what it is? Also, are there long term effects that might make my ankles more injury prone in the furture?

Not a subluxation; the popping you feel and hear, is due to the Peroneal Tendon slipping over your outside ankle bone. You probably have swelling in the injured ankle, hence the reason you presently do not hear/feel the popping in that ankle anymore. This snapping of the tendon is fairly common, and does not make one’s ankles weak. Let us know how your office visit, with the doctor, turns out. Try to get him to refer you to a PT for ankle rehab, and good luck.

The Orthopedist said that I tore the ligaments in my ankle. I’m not sure if he meant the whole ligament or part of it. He said there was really nothing he could do since it’s been 2 weeks and has already started healing. He said that if I saw him when I first got it, he would have put me in a cast for 3-4 weeks. Over the past 3 days it has dramatically improved and the swelling has gone down a lot. I still can turn my foot in that much, and I can’t walk normal yet. I believe I should get a lace up ankle brace, I’m looking at The Swede-O Tarsal Lok Ankle Brace, but if you know of any others, please tell me.
