sub-talar fusion

Due to Rheumatoid Arthritis I had a sub-talar fusion just over six weeks ago.
I was advised to have Physical therapy but any facilities covered by my insurance can’t fit me in shortly. Since I won’t be seeing a therapist shortly, I would like to work on my own. After surgery, while in the cast, I did the recommended six exercises to keep the leg strong.
Since they cast came off, I have been stretching my heel down and rotating the ankle up to the point of pain and any other way I can think of to move it. What other exercises might I do to hasten recovery.
I have a boot like brace but it seems to be doing more harm than good as it causes pain in my knee and hip. I have very little pain but I am being very careful and use a walker, but with good support (Reeboks) I can walk a bit with little discomfort. I am 65 and female and in good health other than RA.
Thank you for any suggestions
