subtalor joint injury

I injured my foot and ankle while performing a landing during an airborne operation in the Army.
I have bruised cartlige in my subtalor joint.
Doctors have told me there is nothing they can do to repair it is this true? Is there any kind of medidines I can take to relieve they pain or make it better?
