Suport for Medial meniscus tear

I need a knee brace for support for an old knee injury. It was a ( bucket handle ) Medial Meniscus tear, I had arthroscopic surgery and got some relief at that time. That was ten years ago.Now I fined my self with pain and loss of use of the knee, that is to say that I can not run, jog, or play any sports at all. I can still walk and climb steps, but any type of movement, that causes impact on the joint, will cause pain and loss of stability. I have a neoprene type of brace and that will help with stability during stressful work. It does not however help with any type of movement that causes impact. My doctor says that I am to young, heavy, and active for a knee replacement. The reasoning he says is that I will ware it out and need a new one in 5 – 10 years or less.Any suggestions for a support? ThanksTCS

Your doctor is right about the knee replacement. The more active you are, the faster they wear out. It’s not like a normal joint. As for the brace for impact activities…..there is no brace that can help with that. The force of the impact is going through the joint causing compression at the knee. One, you should lose weight, that would help. Two, find a new sport like kayaking, scuba diving, biking…something that has less impact on your knees. Save the knees you have!! And exercise your legs too. Good luck, Mya
