swollen and painful right foot and ankle

(2 discussions)

I have had swelling in my right foot and ankle for almost 2 months. I have had xrays and the foot and ankle are fine except for some mild arthritis. What other medical problems might cause the constant swelling and pain? I have been on pravacol and now am on zocor for high cholesterol. I know that cholesterol medication can cuase muscle pain. My liver panels have been normal. My internist referred to it as “summer swelling”…but it in my right foot only. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you, MeMe

Without seeing your foot and leg I can’t say for sure. Vascular problems can be one casue. I agree that if the medications were the cause, then why not both ankles swelling? Is there some mechanical cause? For instance, do you sit on that leg while doing something?

For the past 3-4 months, I have had swelling of my right foot and ankle(up to the bottom of the calf, and it is very hard)accompanied by an unexplainable rash on the inside of the right leg(lower). I have stopped drinking so much water while I am at work, I do no know whether this is good or bad. It seems to be worse at home, versus than at work. I am a telephone operator/cashier at Wal-Mart, and am on my feet all day long. I would like to get to the bottom of this, and at least attach a name to this problem I have, so, I know what it is I am dealing with here. Can you please help me?
