my son came home with a swollen knuckle 2 days ago it hurts to close it hurts to open should my question is there anything that can be done for a possible broken or bruised knuckle. he refuses to go to the doctor says that it just hurts when he moves it.

My 63 year old husband has just developed swelling in the middle knuckle of his left hand. He was hitting balls at the golf course only once a day and all seemed fine but recently he started hitting balls twice a day (both morning and afternoon) and that’s when he noticed the swelling in that knuckle. Do we use heat or cold on it to minimize the swelling and should he go back to hitting balls only once a day?Any help you can give us will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
