TaeKwonDo and my old leg

I am a 40 year old woman.
I have always worked out, but 4 months ago I started taking TaeKwonDo classes.
The first day, while stretching I pulled (?) something in the back of my right leg. It has remained sore ever since.
I can not stretch it out as far as I can the left leg, and it occasionally causes pain after class.
I have iced it and stretch it out daily.
IS there anything else I should be doing to lessen the chances I will tear it or pull it badly?

Wendy,If your hamstring is still bothering you after 4 months, don’t you think it is time to seek professional medical advice? I sure do! If you continue to practice with soreness and lack of full range-of-motion, you will eventually strain (tear) your hamstring; and probably to much greater degree than you can imagine. Also, the older a person is, the longer sprains and strains typically talk to fully heal. I would strongly advise you go get a medical evaluation from either an Orthopedist, or a Physical Therapist. If you can go straight to the PT, that would be your best bet, since they could both evaluate, and treat, your injury. They can also make sure you don’t do anything to further worsen the injury. Please try to get examined, and then let us know the diagnosis and prognosis. Good luck!
