tail bone

(5 discussions)

Last night I fell off a chair and landed on my tail bone, the area just below the small of my back, although I see no bruising at this time, it hurts to walk, lie down, bend over, or even cough. Could it be possible that I have fractured this area? Or is this just a bruised area that is very sensitive and will heal with time???

Just about 4yrs ago I fell down a flight of stairs on my behind all the way down. I’ve been in pain off & on. Now the pain is getting so much more & it really hurts. Nothing seems to work & I have tried my best to find ways of getting rid of the pain but nothing works. Please help me what should I do.

I have had tail bone pain since about Feb. and I can’t recall a specific incident that could have caused it. Pain is burning when I sit in certain chairs and soft cushioned sofas. Now that it is the end of May the pain is less and improving, but still noticable when I move certain ways while sitting. There is no pain upon standing or walking . I do exercise at Curves and wonder if on one of the machines where I am sitting with pressure on that area if that did it? What causes this, is it muscle or bone pain? Will time heal this area? Thanks for your time, Judy Fox

Am I to understand that the braces pictured below the message are possible aids for the mentioned pain? I am suffering with pain near or around my tailbone. The paine radiates to my hip is sharp, stabbing sensations, and further down the back of my thigh, the calve muscle of my left leg and ankle. I’m experiencing numbness down the outer edge of my left foot and heal. Sometimes the pain radiates down the outside of the left leg. The pain is better than last month but sleeping and walking is becoming more difficult.

You should go to your doctor and have them either x-ray your tailbone or do an MRI. If the pain keeps increasing it could mean there is more then just some bruising for damage. To the person who has tailbone pain that radiates down there leg and into the foot that is nerve pain. I had a pinched nerve in my back and the pain was in exactly the same places you mention. It’s the sciatic nerve that runs that path down the back of your leg and to your calf and the outside of your foot. If it is pinched in your lower spine then it will send pain all the way down. You also need to go to the doctor for an MRI to see the extent of the damage and get it treated.

I too have tailbone problem, only after getting up from sitting a period of time. Does not hurt upon walking. Is the first thing to do to find out what the problem is is to get an MRI?
