Tail bone pain

(9 discussions)

For 3 weeks my husband has had constant tail bone pain that gets increasingly worse.
Heat and Ibuprofen releive the pain for a short time, but it never goes away.
He cannot recall injuring this area. An x-ray showed nothing abnormal. Could you please offer any possible causes.
His doctor seems to be stumbed. Thank you.

I work out 3 to 4 times a week. I use a variety of machines. Some which require pulling weightsto me, some which require weights be pushed away, some requiring weights to be pulled down, eg when working Lats. and others which require a squuze in motion with legs or arms. I also run/walk on Treadmill at an average of 4.5 elevation for 20 minutes and use eliptical machione at level 6 out of 10 for 10 to 20 minutes. My tail bone gets sore every time for days, requiring a 2 day lay off instead of a one day I like to go 2 days take 1 day off and repeat process. But tail bone pain afterwards now makes me take of 2 to 3 days. I then must sit for long periods of time in the car driving to and from auditions or at my computer looking for auditions. I have tried Tlenol, advil etc. and they do some temp good.Any suggestions will be apprecited. I look great, BP has fallen along with weight (5 11 214 with a8 18% body fat),But the tail bone is, well, a pain in the ass. ThanksFrancis Geyer

I too am having the same pain. I do alot of running and have been running for about 24 years now. I don’t know if that is causing it or not. I have went to the Dr. twice for it so far. The first time, he told me to start stretching. That has done nothing. Then he told me to start physical therapy, which was an insult to me as I exercise all the time now. At night when I sleep one one side, the leg will start hurting also. Today it got worse than ever. It hurt all day right up thru my buttocks. I sit at a desk all day which doesn’t help it.

I’m 19 and about 4 months ago I woke up one day and found that I couldn’t sit without getting really bad pain in my tail bone area. I thought it’d go away so I left it but after about 2 months it was still there. It was hard to sit on the train or in the car, at work and in my university lectures. I went to the doctor and they did x-rays (for breaks) and ultrasounds (for cysts) but found nothing. I couldn’t bear to think of spending the rest of my life like this, but my doctor told me to see a physiotherapist or physical therapist (I think in the US). I’ve been seeing him two times a week for two weeks and have felt a big improvement. It turns out my deep abdominal muscles were weak and weren’t supporting my hips properly. This caused my left hip to become ‘wobbly’ and a bit unstable and put pressure on the muscles in my butt and hamstring and the ones attached to the tail bone causing the pain. You might think that you can’t feel anything wrong with your hips but neither did I because your body tries to fix itself but ends up causing the pain in the tail bone. Please try this because I know what it feels like and have felt a big improvement. You have nothing lose. Please let me know if it does. Thank you

Hey Clare,For starters its only lasted one day so wait a bit longer (like a week) before seeing a doctor. If you had a fall, maybe you bruised or broke it and if not then it could be a cyst or what I had (read my message). Don’t worry emma

: My tail bone seems to be growing, you can actually see it coming out. It is getting very uncomfortable to sit. What could be the problem???

I have tail bone pain. My doctor said that I have pinched nerves right at my tail bone. I have never heard of this. However there is not much they can do about it.!!
