Tailbone

(3 discussions)

My tailbone does noy curve inward as it should, instead it points directly downward, so I can feel it completely, (even see it). It’s always been this way so I have to be careful not to bang it. I assumed I would someday have it removed or cut down, but have heard the recovery time for tailbone removal can be up to a year. I’ve also heard that removal is not recommended. I have no pain at all (unless I hit it) but it’s not easy to sit in certain positions. Any help would be great. Thanks

Chris, I had my tailbone removed two years ago after a nasty quad wreck. I was 24 years old at the time and my healing time was approx. 6-8 weeks. I went back to work in 5 weeks, but sat on a pillow for another month. The first two weeks after the surgery I laid on my stomach and made my husband wait on me. The worst part of the whole thing was sitting down and getting up off of the toilet. I still have some pain when I sit for a long amount of time on a hard seat, but much better than when I landed on it and broke it into a couple of pieces.

i have the same problem. I hate wearing certain clothing because of it. I have contacted many doctors and they all say there is nothing that they can do. I find this hard to believe. I know now that I should have had it done as I kid but, then I was to chicken to even think about it. first thing I was told then was I would be on my stomach all summer long. NO thanks, not at 12 years old. I am now 30 and am looking to have this done. any help would be great.
