Talus fracture

I was in a car accident and shattered my talus.
My ortho was going to go attach the piece that broke off back to the talus. As he tried to do this in surgery the piece blew apart so he cleaned it all out and shaved the area that know had a missing piece in it.
This was about 10 months ago and I have had nothing but pain and yet none of my doctors have been able to tell me the exact cause.
I have had diagnosis from avascular necrosis to achilles hardening as a result from all this. Does anyone have anything like this to help compare to?
I am looking for answers on how to get rid of the constant aches and swelling that doesn’t require medications.

Mary, are you seeing a PT? Electrical stimulation might help you. Either a TENS or a Hi volt. Check with your doctor. But, you can’t use this if you have a pacemaker. It’s a good way to control pain and swelling without medications. Good luck, Mya

I went through PT for 6 wks and had message, iontis (spelled wrong), iceing and stretching. All of which made me limp worse. The next step is an orthodic to stretch the achilles and they are hoping that will provide some relief. If that does not work they are talking fusion and that sounds painful. Thank you for responding to me

hi there mary….. I was in a car accident last october in which I sustained 2 fractures to me ankle as well as a talar fracture….. I have massive severe pain and swelling to the point that I m on the verge of tears….in the er I underwent a closed reduction of the 2 main fractures and was in a cast for 2 months as well as used a wheelchair and walker to move around….now, I have finally convinced my ortho (not the one that saw me in the ER) to take out the piece that broke off to see if that could relieve some of the pain…. I will be undergoing that this upcoming monday…. He was wanting to try injections first but I also sustained a shoulder injury in this same accident and he injected me and I only received minimal relieve…. I m so sick of this pain and I know what u r going through…. I thought I was the only one out there experiencing this…. I know my family and friends and coworkers r tired of me feeling bad all the time…..give me an update on your situation…has anything changed…..look forward to hearing from you
