tear of anterior cruciate ligament
(4 discussions)
i was playing tennis and I fell and the trainer at the school said I tore my anterior cruciate ligament. (this is in my left knee) I went to the emergency room and I got some x-rays taken. fortunalty I have no broken bones but the doctor said I need an MRI or just an orthopedic evaluation. I have never had any injuries at all before and im really worried. how serious is this and am I going to need surgery?

It is not the pain level that matters, but rather the amount to instability in the knee.

Louise,i don't agree with your statement for this girl. It is almost impossible to return to the same level, as a tennis player, w/o an ACL. A middle ages woman who just plays occasionally, maybe, but not a young athlete who might wish to play tennis at a high level.: : A torn ligament is not always painful amd many people can function fine with torn ligaments. Be sure the surgery will help before having it.

Abby chances are you will need surgery I recently did the same thing ina basketball game. I’m hoping it was misdiagnosed because I am not feeling much pain if any at all hopefully the same will apply to you.
