Hello,Just had a few questions concerning my condition.. {age 41}June 3, 2015 Is when the injury occurred. I was wanting to know what kind of non weight bearing excercises I could do at home I have very little muscle tone…. in either of my legs and the doctor said I need to excercise to strengthen my legs but it needs to be no weight bearing due to the injury… I am able to walk again without crutches and have been for about 2 weeks. Some mild pain at times.{In my knee/right leg}< the leg that was injuried....Any info would be greatly appreciated

Some non-weight bearing exercise coming right up….lie on your back, contract your quads..hold for 3 seconds and release…repeat for 10-20 reps…increase the reps as tolerated..this is called a QUAD SET.STRAIGHT LEG RAISE…lie on your back, bend the good knee placing foot on the floor or bed. Keep your involved knee straight, contracting the quad. Slowly raise the straightened leg upto the bent knee and slowly lower to floor or bed. Repeat 10-20 times..increase reps as tolterated.
HIP ABDUCTION…lie on your back. Keep knee straight and slide leg out to the side and return to the center….to make it harder, lie on your side with the involved leg on top…keep the knee straight, tighten quad and raise toward the ceiling.
LONG ARC QUAD. Sit in a chair…start with knee bent and foot on the floor…slowly raise foot, straighten knee, tighten quad and hold for 3 seconds…return to stating position.
STANDING EXERCISES. Hold on to a firm surface, such as a counter top. With the involved leg, raise leg as if you were marching. Next one…keep knee straight and kick behind you…Next one..keep knee straight and kick leg out to the side. Next one…try to kick your buttocks.
There…that should keep you busy for a while. To make the harder as you get stronger you could add a cuff weight starting with 1 pound….
BUT PLEASE ASK YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU ARE ABLE TO USE WEIGHTS BEFORE YOU DO THIS AS NOT TO COMPROMISE THE HEALING OF THE FRACTURE.
