tingle-itch foot problem

Dear Dr.
I have been having a tingly itch sensation that travels in a distinct line from the outside of my ankle down into the sole of the foot. It has been waking me up at night incessantly. Athletes foot has been ruled out by derm Dr. Topical numbing, cortisone, antihistamine do not stop the itch. What has worked is taking aleve twice a day for weeks at a time. I have a history of low back problems. Could this be a pinched nerve problem? what kind of Dr. could help me fix this so I don’t have to be on aleve all the time?
Thanks,Kate

If I understand you correctly- your mother had the toenail avulsed without understanding the procedure? In our office a consent form is given for this.

Yes, that is what happened! My concern is about any potential problems. I have searched the web, but can only find descriptions of much more indepth surgical procedures. I have found nothing about using what my dad described as pliers and just pulling it out with only a local. My interest is my mother, not the doctor. What is the best and safest way to remove toenails that are curled into a circle and embedded into the toes? Thanks for you help.Carol : My mother had her little toenail pulled out with a pair of tweezers last week. She went in just to have her toenail trimmed. (They actually have curled into a circle on top of her toes.): Since that procedure, she has heard nothing but horror stories about having the others removed. She is 80 years old and doesn’t need any more to worry about.: Two questions:: 1. Is that normal procedure? Is it safe to just numb the toenail and yank it out without any warning?: 2. What, if any, are the risks of doing this to the other toes.: Thank you, Carol
