toe cramps

(5 discussions)

My son has these sudden foot and toe cramps. He is in terrible pain for about 10-20 minutes. It happens frequently when he’s swimming or playing sports. What causes them and what can I do to prevent them? Thank you.

I too get toe cramps during the same excercises and I am 37 years old. I don’t remember getting them as frequently, or if at all when I was younger. I now get them almost every night while sleeping, and believe me they wake me up. I did speak to a doctor, and he believed it was a mineral/vitamin deficency. I followed the protocal for a month with no notable change. I shall now try the toe exercices from one of the other sites. Glad to know someone else around has these same pains. Of course no one else in my family understands what I am talking about. Thank you for sharing.

I have been getting toe cramps for the last few years, but in the last few months they have increased in frequency. It happens more often when I am at the gym, but can happen anytime at all. Any of my middle three toes on either foot will cramp up and bend forward on their own. It is not only painful, but I usually have to manually pull them back and hold them until it stops. This is particularly awkward when it happens while I am driving. What causes this and what can I do to prevent it?

My son, who recently turned seven, just got toe and finger cramps as well. It also is during the same activities for him. Any luck yet on what it means, or what to do. My husband wondered if it was a vitamin deficiency of some sort.

I get them as well, usually late in the evening while I’m relaxing on the couch or shortly after I go to bed. I have read that it can be caused by deficiencies in calcium, potassium and magnesium as well as a symptom of dehydration. Another site recommends simple exercises for the feet which have seemed to ease my toe cramps. see link below
