toes curling

I do a lot of road running and for the past year have suffered badly with my left foot.
I have a bunion on this foot, but my problem is that after running a few miles my toes start to curl.
My big toe curls up and the others curl under and I have to stop running.
I have been to a podiatrist who fitted me with orthotics that have not helped at all.
I had the left orthotic adjusted to incorporate a metarsal bar to try to stop the pain that was being caused in one of my toes, but this made the problem worse.
I can alleviate it a bit by putting cotton wool between my toes, but it only partially resolves the problem.
Do you have any idea as to what I could to eliminate my curly toes? Many thanks.

This is very interesting, but without examining you and seeing your foot after you run I can only guess. In my list of possiblities, I would consider Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome causing Muscle spasms or tendon contractions. The fact that the orthotic did not help if only slightly helpful. You need to be evalauted further. Get another opinion. Good luck
