torn bicep?

(12 discussions)

I am 46 years old and Saturday I tried to lift the front end of a vw bug (i’ve done it before)and I felt a sidden and very intense pain,it subsided in a couple of days but the discomfort stayed for a couple of weeks now it’s almost gone, but my arms now look very different, I went to a doctor who suggested that I might have torn the bicep tendon and now I wonder what are my options.

Had mine done right away also, glad I did. Although you wont lose too much strength, suppinating the wrist will be a pain. I play semi-pro football year round and Dr says I’ll be back to 100% in 6 months.

Had mine reconnected also. Also glad I did. Yes, suppinating the wrist has been the most painful part. Other than that I haven’t had much pain at all. Personally, I think that not having surgery would be a dreadful mistake.

I, too, am 49 and am pretty confident that I had a partial tear of the short head. I’m scrambling to get an ultrasound appointment ASAP to confirm. Have you any comments whether timing to get surgery done is important. In other words, the sooner the better, or does it really matter?

Going through the surgery/healing process now. What can I expect with scars in forearm and bicep?

Hi all, same thing has happened to me this Monday (21st Nov), ER (A&E in the UK) gave me the same 20-40% rubbish, I’m only 35 years old and very active. I see an orthopaedic tomorrow (Thursday 24th Nov) and I’m getting worried that the longer I spend waiting the harder the op/recovery will be…From accident to operation, how long did you guys wait? Many thanks

Myhusband torn his bicep. He is 38, great shape. The Ortho told him, since he waited 7 months to repair it, he would have to cast it for 3 weeks, after that he would not full use of his elbow? Make sense?

I am 49 and just “tore” my right bicep while rocking a 350z out of a rut. The bicep actually tore from the bottom connection point and the muscle sat much higher on my arm. The orthopedic Dr said you can function like that since you only lose 20 to 40% of your strength… So some people leave it. I opted to let him reconnect it — 3 weeks immobilized- 3 weeks careful movement– then physcial therapy. My arms looks normal again and I’m glad I did it. Find a good orthopedic surgeon–I went to a hospital with a “sports clinic”. They treat pro athletes, etc. so I figured they “know”.

My husband has a torn left bicep. It has been at least 10 months. He went to the doctor right away his arm put in a sling until the MRI. We were caught up in the Rita Hurricane which delayed his MRI. Upon returning to our home and finally getting to see the doctor my husband was told surgery would not do any good since he had waited so long for treatment (which by the way was not his choice) and told he lost 20 to 40% strength in his arm. Now he is having problems with cramping and pain in his left arm just washing his hair and simple task. Any advise?

Hey guys I am 43 and torn my bicep helping my niece witn a front flip. My left arm was a balance and I guess the pressure torn it. Was it costly to have surgery?

I have torn my right biscep tendon about 3 months ago.the doctor said the way it is torn it is not repairable, but it will be ok. Only lose 4 to 7 percent of strength on palm up, palm down. But I can not pickup pictcher of tea with my arm extended outward. What about long term problems.

I think ita torn from the bottom coz my bicep is at the top of my arm right now…such a bummer to say I could have been looking much different to how I do now.

I torn my bicep by trying to lift a heavier load than I could and I don’t know if there is a good repir procedure for this condition but if there is any please advise. Mine broke from the bottom since I noted is bunched up.
