torn bicep Muscle

I tore my bicep muscle at the elbow. I am 42 but still very physically active. I am wondering what is involved in having the surgery to repair such a tear, and what are the potential risks. Any information would be greatly appreciated.Jeff

A couple years ago I pulled extremely hard on something at work. The next day or so a lot of black and blue showed up from the bicep down to the elbow on the inside of my arm. The black and blue went away but since I have a large recess on the outside of my bicep to my shoulder. My bicep moves back and forth and looks bigger than it should. There is not much pain except when I try to use my left arm to wash under my right armpit or do things with that movement. Is it to late for any repair.
