torn bicep muscle or tendon

(4 discussions)

can I ask if anyone had any warning signs before the tendon actually tore ?the reason I ask, is that I am feeling pain in what I think is the tendon at the elbow joint. it is beneath the bicep muscle. the funny thing is I can can perform bicep excercises, it generally only hurts when I pick something up. im pretty scared of rupturing a tendon or bicep muscle…. Please advise..cheers

I didn’t have any kind of notice and just have torn my lower bicep tendon 85% 1 month ago as of 10-4-05 and on 10-10-05 the other 15% tore. It was a work related incident so the work-mans comp ins. sure is taking there time to approve my surgery. I wasn’t even picking anything up when mine tore, it was the way I was stretching.

    Hey Brendan,
About three to four weeks ago I went help a friend pick up a washing machine. He didn’t have his side and when it started to fall I jurked my arm to catch it and heard four pops and instant pain. My diagnosis was that I had Distal Biceps Tendon Rupture, which is the rarest of all bicep injuries (less than 5%). I was given a wrong diagnosis and just iced it and took muscle relaxants and pain killers, but nothing seemed to help. My advice to you is if you here a pop, snap, crack, etc. go immediatley to the doctor and also see a specialist. Now they don’t think they will be able to fix it. You can live without it being fixed, but it will hinder you in many ways, strength, flexability, range of motion and later on a good possibilty of joint pain! I am also a GYM RAT and have almost 20 inch arms and out of nowhere I couldn’t do straight barbell curls without severe pain and also felt a similar pain while doing head bangers! I have read that people with carpal tunnel issues are more prone to injuies. So if it hurts and not in the good way like a nice burn or adrenilin high, I wouldn’t do it. You might want to check with your Doctor about an MRI if there is alays that pain, because that doesn’t sound normal or healthy.
    Good Luck!
