torn distal bicep

(4 discussions)

I injured my bicep a month ago playing rugby, it was diagnosed as a torn distal bicep. What are my options and what is the recovery time after surgery? I am a correction officer, therefore going back to work with a sling isn’t a option. Any input is greatly appreciated I am stressing a bit.

: joshHi,is the tendon ripped of the bone at the elbow? If so I am recoverung from the exact same injury. I work as a cop in Glasgow in Scotland during august I tore the tendon off the bone at the elbow and had it repaired by surgery at the local hospital. The arm is still a bit weaker at the elbow but getting better and I hope to make a full recovery.Without the op. without doubt I would have lost my job,if you want details of recovery period ect get back to me regardswillie

: joshIf you haven’t done so by now you will need surgury to repair the tendon, if not you will have a disfigured biced for life that will only continue to shrink with time due to inability to work the muscle. I tore my right bicep tendon one week before you. I opted for surgury.

: joshJosh, I’m a 51yr. old retired rugger; over 25yrs. as a hooker and flanker so I wish you all the best. A few days ago I tore my left distal bicep and surgery has been recommended. My research indicates a 6 to 7 month rehab. I am anxious to get any information I can regarding rehab.
