torn hamstring

(4 discussions)

I think I have torn my hamstring. I started noticing a pain in my upper left sensoredox area on friday. I decided to stop running that day. When monday arrived it got worst and I could not walk. I am now on the friday after and it seems like it has progressed until full pain today. I can walk but in pain and in little strides. I have sharp pains on my upper left leg. Today is the worst it has been so far. I have tried ibuprofen, compression, ice, rest and it doesn’t seem like its getting any better. Please help.

Memorial Day – okay so I’m a 47 year old female (x-gynmist) that someone forgot to tell me that I should no longer be doing handstand dives into the pool without streching. (Which is what I did). I was pushing up into a handstand when I felt- truly I a tear in the hamstring area). Dang! It immediately hurt. & especially when walking up stairs OUCH! I am so bummed – just before summer! So what does a torm hamstring mean?? Just rest/ice? Or does one need surgery? And what is the surgical proceedure? Thank you! Johanna (bummed in Southern California).

I too have experienced this tormenting illness. It is very painful and hard to find someone to talk to about it. I salute you for coming forward with your quandry. I used to weight-lift and danced for 12 years and now am not able to walk a block before my leg gives out and starts to spasm. Anyone out with this combination? Let me know! Thanks for the ear people, any time you need to talk give your fingers a rap on the keyboard.

I too have torn my right hamstring waterskiing and am so absolutely depressed over not having the ability to ski or do any kind of cardio exercise. I normally work out 5 or 6 days a week, 3 or 4 of those days being totally lower body workout/cardio. Did you ever get any good advice? I have iced it and done some acupuncture, which has seemed to help a bit, but being a mom of 3, I am finding it difficult to just rest. Any suggestions?Eddi (pronounced like Eddie)
