Torn Medial Maniscus

(2 discussions)

Today, the VA did an MRI on my knee.
They informed me I have a torn Medial Maniscus.
I’ve aparently had this injury since l976, and they’ve just now told me what it is. Now, should I allow them to operate, cause I realy look for that to be their next sugestion. I have learned to live with this all these years, and I’m realy leary to have surgery.
I have adverse reactions to “most” medications, and I don’t know if I should even let them treat me for this at all. After so long, should I have something done with it or should I just continue to live with it??

My husband just had surgery for a torn Medial Maniscus. He had hurt his knee about 10 years ago in a skiing fall. He always had some pain, but over the years it became worse and worse.
He finally was in so much pain that he could only walk for short periods of time and sometimes his knee would just buckle and give way (even while just standing). He finally went to a specialist and opted for the surgery. The surgeon took before and after pictures of the inside of his knee — the medial maniscus looked like shredded wheat.
The doctor removed the m.m. and he has 3 little insision marks where the surgery was done. He had his surgery done on Friday morning and he is going to be back at work on Tuesday. He is able to walk slowly and he can bend his knee at a 90 degree angle now 3 days after the surgery. He won’t have to go for physical therapy — the doctor recommended riding his bike around the neighborhood as therapy.
He is already glad that he had the surgery because even though he is moving slower now, he is not in the pain he was before.
