Torn Meniscus

(3 discussions)

I have had physical therapy for a period of one month and I have been prescribed an anti-inflamatory medication, Bextra, on a one tablet per day regimen addtionally I have been prescribed Vicodanon a two tablet per day regimen every four hours as needed basis only, as well as wearing a knee brace daily.Taking th Vicodan helps however, after taking the Bextra medication for a period of three months and 500mg of Glucosimine Contridon daily, my doctor is advising arthroscopic surgery, since I cannot be on the Vicodan medication forever.
Is there any other way to heal a torn medial meniscus without having surgery????
Please respond ASAP!!!!

hey.. I hurt my knee recently, and my friend who is an athletic trainer said if I tore my meniscus, I have to have surgery. Meniscus can’t not heal on its own. There are two types of surgery. you can ask ur doc bout that. But it should take a few months(rest and rehab) before your knee gets a lot better. I will find out what happened to my knee on wed. I’m seeing a knee doctor

Hi! I have had a meniscus tear in my right knee a year and a half ago. I also had a cartilage buid up in my left knee 11 years ago. I recently had MRI’s done on both knee’s, because I’m having alot of pain on the insides of my knees. Now I found out that I have tears in both knees. I want to have them taken care of at the same time, because of the severity of the pain. Can this be done with an Arthroscopy. Thanks,Dennis

I have a question regarding a torn meniscus. If you have a torn meniscus, does it hurt really bad at times, not so bad other times and when I first get up, it doesn’t hurt at all! Is this normal for a torn meniscus. I have had x-rays and it is not arthritis. I am having an MRI next week but wondered if this intermittent pain is typical of a torn meniscus. Thanks for the info!
